Fei-Fei Li initially rejected the term "Godmother of AI”. Then she realised: in a world where men are endlessly canonised as "Godfathers" refusing the title might erase women's voices entirely. So she claimed it - for everyone who comes after. Classic Godmother move!

She arrived in New Jersey at 16, speaking almost no English. While her parents struggled, she worked weekends in their dry-cleaning shop, studying physics between customers. At Princeton, she commuted home to keep the family business running.

Through ImageNet, she taught computers to see like humans see - messy, contextual, complex. and asks Who gets harmed when AI fails? Whose faces does it fail to recognise?
